About Best Backtesting Softwares
We're an independent team building a trusted resource for backtesting software reviews, comparisons, and articles.
Who we are
Best Backtesting Softwares was created for traders and quants who were tired of sifting through biased roundups and affiliate-driven recommendations when searching for the right backtesting tool. The market is crowded: charting platforms, desktop terminals, cloud quant stacks, and open-source libraries all claim to be "the best", and most comparison sites blur marketing language with editorial judgment.
We are not a general finance media site that covers backtesting as a side topic. This is our entire focus. Every profile, comparison table, and guide on this site is written for people who actually need to test strategies before risking capital.
Our mission
The backtesting software market ranges from free broker platforms and open-source Python libraries to paid desktop licences and cloud compute subscriptions. Choosing the wrong tool can mean months of rework, rewriting strategies in a new language, rebuilding data pipelines, or discovering too late that the platform cannot handle portfolio-level tests.
Our mission is straightforward: help you find the backtesting software that fits your markets, skills, and budget. We do this through:
- Honest profiles based on documented capabilities, not marketing claims
- Side-by-side comparisons that highlight real differences between platforms
- A consistent set of evaluation criteria, markets, data, realism, usability, flexibility, and total cost
- Regular updates as platforms release new features or change pricing models
Our independence
Best Backtesting Softwares is not owned by, affiliated with, or sponsored by any backtesting software vendor. Vendors cannot pay to be included, to change their position, or to influence what we write.
That matters because many "best of" lists in this space earn commissions when you click through and sign up. That creates an incentive to recommend whatever pays the most, not whatever fits the reader. We think traders and quants deserve better.
For full details on how we operate commercially, see our Disclosure page.
How we evaluate
Every platform we cover goes through the same structured process: documentation review, feature inventory, comparison against peers, and an editorial write-up that covers strengths, limitations, and who the tool is best suited for.
For a detailed breakdown of our criteria and process, see our Review Methodology.
