Panoramica

What TradingView Bar Replay is
Bar Replay hides future bars and plays history forward so you can practise discretionary decisions on native TradingView charts: drawings, indicators and multi-chart layouts included within plan limits. Separately, Strategy Tester runs Pine Script strategies over loaded history and prints equity / trade statistics. Premium’s Deep Backtesting extends automated runs beyond ordinary chart bar caps.
The design goal is chart-native practice and Pine research inside the TradingView subscription, not a free forever replay gym and not a structured journaling suite. Trustpilot scores for tradingview.com are notably poor in aggregate; treat that as a billing/support signal, not as a denial that the charts themselves are industry-standard.
| Job | TradingView fit | Better first choice when… |
|---|---|---|
| Native chart Bar Replay | Strong on Essential+: visual replay inside TradingView charts | You need free TV-powered sessions (Traders Casa) |
| Pine Script automated testing | Strong: Strategy Tester + huge public script library; Deep Backtesting on Premium+ | You need no-code engines outside Pine (TrendSpider, BacktestingMax) |
| Replay + dedicated journal | Weak: no structured simulated-trade journal product | You want TV charts + journaling (Tradespad, FX Replay) |
| Free manual bar replay | Poor: Bar Replay starts at Essential | You refuse to pay for replay alone (Traders Casa, Tradespad Free) |
Quick verdict
Our take: TradingView is still the charts home we assume most traders already know, and Bar Replay plus Pine Strategy Tester are excellent when you are already paying to live there. We would not buy Essential solely as a cheap practice journal: there is no free Bar Replay in our compare data, and there is no dedicated simulated-trade journal. If you only want free TV-powered sessions, we send you to Traders Casa or Tradespad first.
We list starts-from at ~$15/mo (Essential) for Bar Replay, then Plus (~$30-$35), Premium (~$60-$70) and a much higher Ultimate tier. From our team: Essential is the door; Plus/Premium are for deeper 1-minute history and serious Pine work. Paying Ultimate just to practise bars is, in our opinion, usually the wrong bill.
TradingView backtesting features
The platform splits manual visual practice (Bar Replay) from scripted strategy runs (Strategy Tester). Plan gates decide whether Bar Replay unlocks and how deep intraday replay history goes.
1. Bar Replay (manual, Essential+)
Start at a historical point, play bars forward at adjustable speed, and practise discretionary reads with drawings and indicators on replayed data. Multi-chart sync is available within layout limits. Non-standard chart types and some tools have documented incompatibilities in Replay.
Strength: native TV charts with zero second product to learn if you already chart here. Weakness: no free Bar Replay in our compare data, and paper/broker orders still follow real-time data per TradingView’s docs, not the historical tape.
2. Intraday replay history by plan
Official help docs frame Essential at about 6 months of 1-minute Bar Replay data (scaled by interval), Plus at about 1 year of 1-minute, and Premium / professional plans at all available time-based history in storage. Ultimate adds short-window tick Replay (about 7 days). Daily+ intervals generally use the full chart history.
3. Pine Script Strategy Tester (automated)
Attach a strategy, configure commission/slippage assumptions, and read the Strategy Tester report. The public library of shared scripts is a major advantage for beginners who will not write Pine from scratch. Premium’s Deep Backtesting matters when chart bar limits truncate automated history.
4. What is missing versus dedicated replay journals
There is no dedicated backtesting journal for simulated session trades, tags, checklists or playbooks. If that workflow is the job, TradingView is the chart layer: Tradespad, Traders Casa or FX Replay are the practice-journal products.
| Mode | What it is | Status / plan reality | Best when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bar Replay | Manual candle-by-candle historical chart practice | Essential+ only · ~6 months 1m on Essential · ~1y on Plus · full time-based on Premium+ | You already live in TradingView charts |
| Strategy Tester | Automated Pine Script strategy equity / trade reports | Available broadly; Deep Backtesting on Premium+ | You have (or will use) Pine strategies |
| Tick Replay | Highest-resolution historical trade-by-trade replay | Ultimate · roughly last 7 days per help docs | You specifically need short-window tick precision |
| Dedicated practice journal | Session tags, simulated trade logs, playbooks | Not a first-class TradingView product | Choose Tradespad, Traders Casa or FX Replay |
Other TradingView features (brief)
Beyond backtesting, TradingView is a full charting, screening, social ideas and broker-connected trading platform. Alerts, multi-chart layouts, volume tools and community scripts often justify the subscription even when Bar Replay is secondary.
Those extras matter if TradingView is already your daily workspace. They matter less if you only wanted free unlimited bar replay with a journal.
TradingView pricing for Bar Replay (2026)
TradingView rotates list vs promo/annual prices. For this site we summarise paid packaging as Essential / Plus / Premium / Ultimate starting around $15/mo for Bar Replay access. Confirm live figures on tradingview.com/pricing.
| Plan | Typical public framing | Bar Replay / history | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic (Free) | $0 | No Bar Replay (our compare value) | Charting + limited Strategy Tester; not free manual replay |
| Essential | ~$15/mo · often ~$13/mo yearly | ~6 months of 1-minute Bar Replay | Entry plan for native Bar Replay |
| Plus | ~$30-$35/mo | ~1 year of 1-minute Bar Replay | More charts/alerts; deeper intraday replay than Essential |
| Premium | ~$60-$70/mo | All available time-based replay · Deep Backtesting | Practical tier for serious Pine + deep intraday history |
| Ultimate | Often ~$200+/mo yearly framing | Fullest limits · tick Replay (~7 days) | Power-user ceiling; overkill if you only wanted Bar Replay |
Compared with Traders Casa Free forever or Tradespad Free, TradingView makes you pay before manual Bar Replay starts. Compared with FX Replay’s Intermediate/Pro path, TradingView’s bill often buys the whole charting ecosystem, not only a replay gym.
Where TradingView Bar Replay shines
- Native charts everyone already knows. Zero second UI if TradingView is already home.
- Two backtesting modes. Manual Bar Replay plus Pine Strategy Tester in one subscription.
- Huge Pine / community library. Faster start for automated tests without writing everything yourself.
- Clear history ladder. Essential → Plus → Premium depth for 1-minute and full time-based replay is documented.
- Multi-market coverage. Stocks, forex, crypto, futures and more inside one charting account (data entitlements still apply).
- Deep Backtesting on Premium+. Extends automated runs past ordinary chart bar limits.
The drawbacks (read these carefully)
- No free Bar Replay. Manual historical replay starts at Essential in our compare data.
- No dedicated backtesting journal. Simulated session logging, tags and playbooks live elsewhere.
- 1m replay history is plan-gated. Essential’s ~6 months is short for many intraday sample sizes.
- Paper trading ≠ historical fills. Orders still follow real-time data during Bar Replay per TradingView docs.
- Primarily single-symbol Pine strategies. Not a Python/C# multi-portfolio research stack.
- Harsh Trustpilot aggregate. Billing/support complaints are common; factor that into subscription risk.
- Paying only for replay can be inefficient. Free TV-powered journals may cover practice cheaper if you do not need the full TradingView ladder.
Editorial caution: buy TradingView Essential+ for native Bar Replay and/or Pine Strategy Tester when TradingView is already your charting home. Do not buy it expecting free Bar Replay, a dedicated practice journal, or historical paper-trade fills that match the replayed tape.
Who TradingView Bar Replay is for
- Chart traders who already (or want to) live inside TradingView daily
- Users who will pay Essential+ for visual Bar Replay on native charts
- Pine Script users who want Strategy Tester / Deep Backtesting in the same account
- Traders who value community scripts and multi-market charting more than a specialised replay journal
Who should skip it (for backtesting)
- Anyone who needs free manual bar replay (Traders Casa, Tradespad)
- Shoppers who want replay + structured journaling as the main product (FX Replay, Tradespad)
- Quants who need MQL5, NinjaScript or Python as the primary research language (MetaTrader 5, NinjaTrader)
- Users who only wanted a cheap dedicated replay gym without the full TradingView subscription
TradingView vs other backtesting tools
Starts-from figures are public entry points and can change. Confirm on each vendor’s pricing page.

|---|---|---|---|
| TradingView | ~$15/mo (Essential for Bar Replay) | Native Bar Replay + Pine Strategy Tester | No free Bar Replay; no dedicated practice journal |
| FX Replay | $0 · $17.99 / $35 paid | TradingView chart browser replay + journal + analytics | Tight Free caps; Pro for seconds/futures depth |
| Traders Casa | $0 | Unlimited Free TV-powered sessions (~6 months history) | Ads on Free; live journal on Pro |
| Tradespad | $0 | TradingView chart backtesting + journaling | Manual only; Free session caps |
| TrendSpider | Paid (no free) | No-code Strategy Tester inside a premium charting suite | Higher monthly floor; not TV-native |
Final verdict
Choose TradingView Bar Replay when native charts, Pine Strategy Tester and the broader TradingView workspace are already (or will be) your daily stack, and you accept Essential+ pricing for manual replay. Skip it as a backtesting purchase when you need free Bar Replay, a dedicated practice journal, or coded research outside Pine. For traders who will use the full charting subscription anyway, Bar Replay and Strategy Tester are strong built-in tools, not a specialised replay-journal product.
Still deciding? Compare it with FX Replay, Traders Casa, Tradespad and our comparison table before you pay for Essential solely to unlock Bar Replay.
